This is me attempting to engage the world around me, search for justice, and spread peace.

Shawna, where are you?

This is Shawna. She's 20.

She has been missing for 2 months.

She has FASD and is a very generous person, so she's in danger from predatory people.

Her Mom is sick with worry.

If you have seen her, or know anything about where she is, please let me know and, of course, call the police.

And please pray for her, and her Mom.

sign of the apocolypse

I have started watching The OC.

On purpose.

My therapist says my biggest problem is that I have too much time to think.

Apparently, this time the problem actually is all in my head.

Two and a half more months before we move.

Two and a half more months where my main form of contact with the outside world is TV. At least I haven't started watching daytime soaps yet. The OC is terrible, but it's not as bad as daytime soaps. I guess I finally understand why so many people watch them, though. Sometimes other (fictitious) people's problems are a great distraction from your own.

Now I get to actually leave the house and go to the lawn shop for sprinkler system parts. It's important to do something special every day.

gourmet guilt

I got to go shopping at the Asian market recently, so for the past week we have been eating Japanese food every night. We've had yudofu, tonjiru, stir-fired lotus root with steamed edamame, pan-seared tuna with noodles, gomoku takikomi gohan, and even omurice!

I really enjoyed every meal, but each night as I prepared the rice, I couldn't help but think of the rice shortage going on all over the world.

Rice is the foundation of so many different cultures' diets. How will they do without? We can't just say "Let them eat cake."

I have four different kinds of rice in my cupboard.

I like rice, but I would stop eating it if I thought it would fix the problem.

Some scientists are starting to talk about algae and jellyfish becoming the most plentiful food sources in the world. Once we eat all of that, what's next?

Soylent Green, anyone?

Sometimes I am overcome by the most voracious selfishness.
