misery loves company
When I am happy I can't read sad books. The feelings of the characters are in such contrast to my own that it gives me stabbing emotional pains. Maybe a bit like jumping into cold water. But when I'm miserable, it's so comforting to see my emotions mirrored in a fictional character.

When I'm depressed I always play Nick Cave to join me in misery. Makes me feel good. steve
Nick definately has misery down pat.
Some other good music for bad days are Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Fiona Apple.
